The Govt. Homoeopathic Medical College is located in a land area of 11 acres at Iranimuttom Thiruvananthapuram city with building space of over 80000 sq.feet. . The college is under the administrative control of the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of Kerala. The college that started functioning in 1983 is affiliated to the University of Kerala. There are 12 teaching departments in this college, Six of them, Anatomy, Physiology & Biochemistry, Pharmacy & Microbiology, Forensic Medicine & Toxicology and Community Medicine. The clinical departments are Practice Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Organon of Medicine, Materia Medica and Case taking & Repertorisation. The Central Library has important newspapers and periodicals and there are 14 scientific and medical journals, particularly in Homeopathy. The college has a separate book bank for Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes. A 50-bedded inpatient block was started along with the D.P.D which had started functioning earlier.
The Govt.Homoeopathic Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram started functioning during 1983 as Dr. K. J. Issac, as the Principal. The college is affiliated to the University of Kerala and approved by the Central Council of Homoeopathy under the Department of AYUSH of Government of India. The College is owned by the Government of Kerala. The Five and a half years BHMS (Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine & Surgery) degree course was started on the same year. Fifty students are admitted every year for the course. The selection of students for admission is from the common medical entrance test conducted by the Government of Kerala. The BHMS graded degree course was started on 1991 for a period of three years. The three year Post Graduate course (MD (Hom)) in two subjects (Homoeopathic Philosophy and Materia Medica) were started in 1995. In 1996 another PG course in Repertory was added. In the year 2004, Post Graduate courses were started in the subject of Practice of Medicine and Homoeopathic Pharmacy. Six students are admitted to each speciality through the Homoeopathy post graduate entrance test conducted by the Government of Kerala. The one year Nurse cum Pharmacist course is also conducted in the college. Sree Narayana College at Chempazhanthy was established by Sree Narayana Trusts, Kollam, in the name of the great social reformer Shri Narayana Guru in 1964. The college has a highly qualified faculty of eighty nine teachers and forty non-teaching staff. It has over 2,300 students. Akkulam Boat Club


Situated at a distance of about 10 km from Thiruvananthapuram, Akkulam Boat Club is a popular retreat on the banks of the Akkulam Lake. It provides motor-driven safari launches, power boats, pedal boats or row boats. Kayaks and hovercraft are the added attraction. There is a children's park, snack bar and a swimming pool. Aruvippuram



Aruvippuram is a beautiful city in Thiruvananthapuram District of Kerala. It is an important pilgrimage centre. The place has a beautiful waterfall. The temple of Lord Shiva is the main attraction. Aruvippuram Shiva Temple
Aruvippuram Shiva Temple is located at Aruvippuram in Thiruvananthapuram District of Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva.
The temple is of great historical and social importance as the shivling was installed by the great social reformer Shri Narayana Guru in AD 1888, on the Shivratri day. This was done against the rule when tradition strictly allowed only Brahmins to install deities. Legend has it that Shri Narayana Guru got the idol from a nearby waterfall.
The main festival of the temple is Shivratri. Various cultural programs are conducted during this time. A caparisoned elephant carries the image of the deity in a grand procession in the evening and the festival concludes with the Aarattu. Shri Narayana Guru Jayanthi is also celebrated in a grand manner. There is a cave on top of a nearby hill and it is believed that Guru meditated here.
