Regional Office for Reserve Bank of India


The Regional Office of the Reserve Bank of India started functioning in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of this picturesque state, in 1954. At its inception there was only one Department in the Office viz., Department of Banking Operations (DBO). The operations of the Regional Office expanded in 1968 with the addition of the Agricultural Credit Department. In the same year the location of the Office was also shifted to the Belhaven Palace, which was purchased by the Bank from the descendants of the erstwhile Royal Family of the State of Travancore. Later, in 1981 a sub-office of the Issue Department was set up to cater to the currency requirements of the public.
The present office building at Bakery Junction was opened in 1982 in the heart of Thiruvananthapuram city. All the departments housed elsewhere were shifted to this premises. Other departments such as DAD, PAD, PDO etc also started functioning and the issue sub office was converted into a full-fledged Issue Department.
The Department of Non-Banking Supervision was created in the Office in 1997. In 1998 the Department of Information Technology Cell was set up in the Office.
Several high end information technology related applications are operationalised at this Office such as the Negotiated Dealing System (NDS) to facilitate on-line servicing of public debt, and the Currency Verification and Processing System (CVPS) for processing of soiled notes in the Issue Department. Aruvikkara Dam





Aruvikkara Dam is located in Thiruvananthapuram District of Kerala. It is built across the Karamana River and is around 16 km north of Thiruvananthapuram city. The dam supplies water to Thiruvananthapuram city.

Balaramapuram



Balaramapuram is a township situated 13 km south of Thiruvananthapuram city in Kerala. Eruthavoor Shri Balasubramanya Swamy Temple

Eruthavoor Shri Balasubramanya Swamy Temple is an ancient shrine situated at Balaramapuram in Thiruvananthapuram District. The temple situated on the top of Eruthavoor Hill enshrines Lord Muruga, in the infant form, as the presiding deity.
Separate shrines are earmarked for Lord Ganesh, Nagaraja and Nagakanya. Devotees must take a flight of 242 stairs to reach this holy temple. Visitors can enjoy the magnificent glimpses of the sunset and expanses of green by standing on the hill.
Kavadi, Urul Nercha (rolling on the ground) and Muzhukappu are the main offerings at the temple. The annual festival organized in January is celebrated with gaiety and fanfare by the devotees.
This temple lies 15 km south of Thiruvananthapuram and is on the Balaramapuram-Kattakada Road. Regular buses are available from Thiruvananthapuram and Neyyattinkara.

எருதாவூர் ஸ்ரீ பாலசுப்ரமணிய சுவாமி கோவில்

திருவனந்தபுரம் மாவட்டத்தில் உள்ள பலராமபுரத்தில் அமைந்துள்ள எருதாவூர் ஸ்ரீ பாலசுப்ரமணிய ஸ்வாமி கோயில் ஒரு பழமையான கோயிலாகும். எருதாவூர் மலையின் உச்சியில் அமைந்துள்ள இக்கோயிலில் முருகப்பெருமான் குழந்தை வடிவில் மூலவராக காட்சியளிக்கிறார்.
விநாயகர், நாகராஜா மற்றும் நாககன்யா ஆகியோருக்கு தனித்தனி சன்னதிகள் அமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. இந்த புனித கோவிலை அடைய பக்தர்கள் 242 படிக்கட்டுகள் விமானம் மூலம் செல்ல வேண்டும். சூரிய அஸ்தமனத்தின் அற்புதமான காட்சிகளையும், பச்சை நிறத்தின் விரிவாக்கத்தையும் மலையின் மீது நின்று பார்வையாளர்கள் அனுபவிக்க முடியும்.
காவடி, உருள் நேர்ச்சை (தரையில் உருளுதல்) மற்றும் முழங்காப்பு ஆகியவை கோயிலில் முக்கிய பிரசாதம். ஆண்டுதோறும் ஜனவரி மாதம் நடைபெறும் திருவிழா பக்தர்களால் கோலாகலமாகவும், கோலாகலமாகவும் கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது.

Chirayinkeezhu / Chirayinkil is a small town in Thiruvananthapuram District of Kerala. Places of tourist interest in the vicinity include the Sarkara Devi Temple and Varkala Beach. The 10-day Sarkara Bharani festival in March–April is a major event attended by devotees from all over the district. This is the birthplace of the Malayalam actors Shri. Prem Nazir and Bharath Gopi. Sarkara Devi Temple



Sarkara Devi Temple is one of the foremost Devi temples in South India. It is located at Sarkara, south of Chirayinkeezhu in Thiruvananthapuram District. Sarkara Devi, one of the forms of Goddess Bhadrakali, is the main deity worshipped. Lord Ganesh and Nagaraja are the sub-deities. The temple rose to prominence with the introduction of the famous Kaliyoottu festival. Sarkara Bharani, the birthday of the Bhagavathy, is the other major festival celebrated. These two festivals reveal a glimpse of the rich cultural past of Travancore. The temple is about 33 km north of Thiruvananthapuram and near the Chirayinkil Railway Station.

Sarkara Kaliyoot

Sarkara Kaliyoot is one of the major festivals celebrated in Sarkara Devi Temple, Chirayinkeezhu in Thiruvananthapuram District. This annual festival (February–March) is celebrated to commemorate the fight between Darika and Bhadrakali. It starts on an auspicious Thursday in Kumbham and ends on the ninth day. This festival is a dramatic presentation of the genesis of Bhadrakali and Darika - representatives of good and evil respectively. The main objective of the festival is to offer the elementary harvest to the Amma (the divine Mother), the defender of the land. The nearest airport is Trivandrum International Airport.

Sarkara Bharani
Sarkara Bharani, the birthday of the Sarkara Devi, is one of the major festivals celebrated in Sarkara Devi Temple in Thiruvananthapuram. It is the second great annual festival in the temple and commences in March-April and ends on Bharani, the tenth day. The festival starts with Kodiyettu (flag hoisting), nine days before the asterism of Bharani which is considered as the birth star of Sarkaradevi. It ends on the tenth day with Arat (holy immersion) of the deity in the temple tank. Lots of interesting ceremonies are connected with this festival. During the festival, thousands of devotees visit this temple to get the divine grace and blessings.
