Malayam

Malayam is a picturesque hamlet, near Mukkuni Hill, in Thiruvananthapuram District of Kerala. It is located about 10 km from Thiruvananthapuram.
The popularity of this village centers around the Malayam Shiva Temple. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, this temple celebrates an annual festival, which culminates with Ezhunnallathu ceremony. Another attraction here is Malayam CSI Church. Several other smaller temples and churches can also be seen here.
Malayam is noted for its scenic beauty, dotted with paddy fields and dense trees. During night, the place is alluring with a cool and soothing climate. Malayinkeezhu, with its Sree Krishna Temple, and Kattakada are some of the surrounding places. Besides, Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary is easily accessible from Malayam.

Malayam Shiva Temple

The Shiva Temple at Malayam is located about 11 km from Thiruvananthapuram, in Kerala.
As the name indicates, the temple’s presiding deity is Lord Shiva. Besides, there are separate sanctums for Lord Ganesh, Goddess Bhagavathy and Lord Nagaraja - the serpent god. A special ritual named Naranga Vilakku (oil lamps lit on lemons) is performed for Goddess Bhagavathy every Tuesday and Friday.
A major draw is the annual festival, which is celebrated with much pomp and splendor. It ends with the Ezhunnallathu ceremony. Also, a grand festival is held here during Mahashivaratri. Special prayers and pujas are performed on this occasion.

Mukkuni Hill

Surrounded by thick green forest, Mukkuni Hill, about 10 km away from Thiruvananthapuram, is a rubber estate. The place offers a perfect gateway from the hustle-bustle of the city and is a quiet retreat for travelers. Prior permission is required for accommodation. Trivandrum International Airport, at Shanghumugham, is the nearest airport. The closest railway station is Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station.

Mannanthala

Mannanthala is a calm residential area in Thiruvananthapuram. It is around 10 km from the city center and is 4 km from Kesavadasapuram.
The Government Press is the major landmark of Mannanthala. Other attractions include Vayambachira Pond, a stadium, Juhanon Mar Thoma Study Centre, Anandavalleswaram Devi Temple and Ranigiri Church. Major educational institutions such as Mar Ivanios College, Mar Baselios College of Engineering, St Thomas Residential School and Sarvodaya Vidyalaya are within a short distance from here. Bhavani Arogyaniketanam and Samuels Holiday Homes are other points of interest.
Mukkola is just 2 km away in the east, which leads to Peroorkada via Kudappanakunnu. To the north is Vattappara (5 km) and to the south is Nalanchira (2 km) on the MC Road connecting Thiruvananthapuram and Kottarakara. Powdikonam is about 3 km west of Mannanthala via Keraladithyapuram, which connects National Highway 47 at Sreekariyam.

Anandavalleswaram Devi Temple

Anandavalleswaram Devi Temple, also known as Mannanthala Devi Temple, is located about 9 km from Thiruvananthapuram at Mannanthala in Thiruvananthapuram District. The presiding deity of the temple is Ardhanariswara (a combination of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati).
The significance of this temple is that it is the second temple in Kerala where Shri Narayana Guru made the pradishta (installation of the deity), in the year 1888. Legend says that the local populace used to worship a deity here under a Pipal tree. The place now holds the flag staff, which is in front of the temple. Earlier it was a small temple but was reconstructed in 1974. The temple with its white gopuram resembles typical north Indian style of architecture. This east facing temple has a mukha mandapam and also a ‘Sadyalayam’. The temple spans over an area of about 0.7 acre.
The specialty of the deity is that there is a carving of an elephant on one ear of the deity and the other ear holds that of a lion. The sub deities enshrined here are Lord Ganesh, Lord Muruga and Nagaraja.
Anandavalleswaram temple celebrates its seven-day festival during February or March. It starts on the Revathi asterism and concludes with an Arattu on the Thiruvathira asterism in the Malayalam month of Kumbham. There is an open-air theater by the side of the temple where cultural programs are held during the festive occasion. On the concluding day there is a procession from the temple that covers the places in the vicinity and come back to the temple after the deity is bathed in the pond. Caparisoned elephants and Chendamelam adds the beauty of the procession.
By road, the temple can be easily approached from Thiruvananthapuram by traveling on the MC Road towards Kottarakara.

Mukkola

Mukkola is a residential area in Thiruvananthapuram. It is about 11 km from the city center.
Shird Sai Temple and Ganapathy Temple are the main attractions. St Thomas High School, St Thomas Residential School and St Thomas Central School are the major educational institutions located here.
The Government Press is with in 1 km distance, which is on the way to Mannathala. Kudappanakunnu, Maruthur, Kallayam and Mannanthala are the nearby places.

Murinjapalam is a residential area in Thiruvananthapuram and it lies near Kumarapuram. It is situated between Pattom and Medical College Junction. Gowrishapattom, Thekkummoodu, Kannammoola and Pottakkuzhy are the nearby places.

Shri Kalakandeswaram Temple

Shri Kalakandeswaram Temple located at Edavilakom in Murukkumpuzha, Thiruvananthapuram District was erected in 1922, inspired by Sree Narayana Guru. Guru consecrated a mirror in the temple with the words 'Truth, Dharma, Love, Kindness' inscribed around the pranava mantra 'Om'. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva.
A flag-staff made of bronze has been erected here. A wedding hall and a dance school are attached to the temple. The temple is managed by the SNDP (Shri Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam).
The temple can be approached easily as Murukkumpuzha is on the Thiruvananthapuram-Kollam national highway (NH 47). The nearest railhead is Murukkumpuzha Railway Station.

Murukkampuzha Railway Station

Murukkampuzha Railway Station, also spelt Murukkumpuzha Railway Station, is about 21 km from Thiruvananthapuram. It is served by the Southern Railways. Manacaud Muthumari Amman Temple

Muthumari Amman Temple is located near Attukal Bhagavathy Temple, at Manacaud, in Thiruvananthapuram District of Kerala. The temple is the abode of Muthumari Amman, a form of Goddess Shakti. The goddess is related with prosperity and health and is believed that she can cure devotee’s diseases such as small pox and chicken pox.

Separate shrines are for the deities of Lord Ganesh, Nagaraja, Madan Thampuran and Mantramoorthi. Large number of devotees visits this temple with ardent devotion. The gopuras and figures are a feast to visitors’ eyes.

Irumkulangara Temple

Irumkulangara Temple is situated at Manacaud, about 2 km from Thiruvananthapuram city center. This temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga.
The temple has separate niches for Lord Ganesh and Nagaraja. The major festival of the temple, held in April, lasts for 10 days and ends with Ezhunnallathu.
