Chirayinkeezhu / Chirayinkil is a small town in Thiruvananthapuram District of Kerala. Places of tourist interest in the vicinity include the Sarkara Devi Temple and Varkala Beach. The 10-day Sarkara Bharani festival in March–April is a major event attended by devotees from all over the district. This is the birthplace of the Malayalam actors Shri. Prem Nazir and Bharath Gopi. Regular buses connect Chirayinkeezhu with Varkala, Kadakkavoor, Attingal and Thiruvananthapuram. The nearest Airport is Trivandrum International Airport and Chirayinkeezhu Railway Station is the nearest Railway Station.

Sarkara Devi Temple



Sarkara Devi Temple is one of the foremost Devi temples in South India. It is located at Sarkara, south of Chirayinkeezhu in Thiruvananthapuram District. Sarkara Devi, one of the forms of Goddess Bhadrakali, is the main deity worshipped. Lord Ganesh and Nagaraja are the sub-deities. The temple rose to prominence with the introduction of the famous Kaliyoottu festival. Sarkara Bharani, the birthday of the Bhagavathy, is the other major festival celebrated. These two festivals reveal a glimpse of the rich cultural past of Travancore. The temple is about 33 km north of Thiruvananthapuram and near the Chirayinkil Railway Station.

Sarkara Kaliyoot

Sarkara Kaliyoot is one of the major festivals celebrated in Sarkara Devi Temple, Chirayinkeezhu in Thiruvananthapuram District. This annual festival (February–March) is celebrated to commemorate the fight between Darika and Bhadrakali. It starts on an auspicious Thursday in Kumbham and ends on the ninth day. This festival is a dramatic presentation of the genesis of Bhadrakali and Darika - representatives of good and evil respectively. The main objective of the festival is to offer the elementary harvest to the Amma (the divine Mother), the defender of the land. The nearest airport is Trivandrum International Airport.

Sarkara Bharani
Sarkara Bharani, the birthday of the Sarkara Devi, is one of the major festivals celebrated in Sarkara Devi Temple in Thiruvananthapuram. It is the second great annual festival in the temple and commences in March-April and ends on Bharani, the tenth day. The festival starts with Kodiyettu (flag hoisting), nine days before the asterism of Bharani which is considered as the birth star of Sarkaradevi. It ends on the tenth day with Arat (holy immersion) of the deity in the temple tank. Lots of interesting ceremonies are connected with this festival. During the festival, thousands of devotees visit this temple to get the divine grace and blessings.

Chirayinkeezhu Railway Station is managed by the Southern Railways. It is on the Thriuvananthapuram-Kollam rail route. Malabar Express, Guruvayoor-Chennai Egmore Express, Vanchinad Express, Venad Express and Thiruvananthapuram-Kannur Express pass through this station. Traveling south, Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station  is the nearest major railhead. To the north, Kollam Junction Railway Station is the nearest main station. Nearby attractions are Sarkara Bhagavathi Temple and Varkala Beach.
